Ian T. Gwin was born in Seattle, Washington, 1996. He studied linguistics and Scandinavian languages, briefly living in Tartu, Estonia. He translates literature from Estonian, Finnish, Latvian, and Lithuanian. His translations include early 20th century Estonian decadent writers Jaan Oks and Friedebert Tuglas, but also contemporaries, such as the Latvian writer Andris Kuprišs, whose collection Berlin will be published by Open Letter Books in 2025. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. thesis at the University of Washington, comparing the emergence of folklore studies alongside fin de siècle aesthetics in the development of the fairy tale genre around the Baltic Sea. His own poetry has been published by Spectra Poets, Apocalypse Confidential, and elsewhere.
