Gytis Norvilas (b. 1976 in Jonava) is a poet, translator, and essayist. He lives in Vilnius. A graduate of Vilnius University, Norvilas earned his bachelor’s in Theory of History and History of Culture. He is the author of several books – five poetry collections, including Akmen-skeltės (Stoneshards, 2002), Skėrių pusryčiai (Breakfast of Locusts, 2006), Išlydžių zonos (Discharge Zones, 2012), Grimzdimas (Sinking, 2017), and Akla valtis (Blind Boats, 2021). He has also published a children’s book, Vėžlys Dūmas (Dūmas the Turtle, 2018), and a collection of essays titled Požemių paukščiai (Birds of the Underground, 2024).

His first book Akmen-skeltės won the Druskininkai Poetry Fall award for most significant debut. In 2013, his book Išlydžių zonos was recognized as the most creative work of 2012 by the Lithuanian Literature and Folklore Institute. In 2017, Grimzdimas earned him the prestigious Jotvingiai Prize. The following year, the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore awarded him once again for the most creative Lithuanian literary work published in 2017.

Since 2010, Norvilas has been a member of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union. From 2014 to 2022, he served as editor-in-chief of the cultural journal Literatūra ir menas. His poetry has been translated into English, Bulgarian, Russian, Latvian, Polish, German, Ukrainian, Croatian, Belarusian, Macedonian, Georgian, Armenian, Spanish, and other languages.
