Diana Bartkutė Barnard graduated in English from Vilnius University in 1982 and did her MA in English Language Teaching at the Department of the Modern English Language, Lancaster University (UK), in 1994. She taught English at Vilnius University and at the Centre of Foreign Languages of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. At present, Barnard is an editor at the Publishing Department of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. She has been translating since 1994 and has worked for the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore and the Lithuanian Institute of History, the Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum, Vaga Publishers, Alma Littera, Baltos lankos, and Tyto alba publishers, the Publishing House of Vilnius Academy of Arts, Vilnius Review and others.

“I am a translator of texts about literature and the like. My biggest motivation and inspiration to begin as a translator was Lionginas Pažūsis, my teacher of Lithuanian-to-English translation at the university.”

Barnard co- translated texts of Lithuanian Literature (together with Violeta Kelertas and Rita Dapkutė) published by Vaga Publishers in 1997 and her texts on 100 Lithuanian writers appeared in the reference book 300 Baltic Writers published by the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore in 2009.
