Miglė Anušauskaitė’s graphic novel tells the life story of one person – from his childhood in Kupiškis to his studies in Kaunas, through the horrors of the Second World War and his time teaching in Alexandria to France. That person is the world-renowned semiotician Algirdas Julius Greimas, who invented a new method for analysing literary works and dedicated his entire life to the question of meaning. Anušauskaitė playfully intertwines the narrative with sections about semiotic theory, philosophical schools, and advice for how to come across as smart. It is a significant and exciting book for a wide range of readers!

Anušauskaitė was born in 1988 in Kaunas and later lived in Pakruojis and Vilnius, where she studied, read, and wrote before eventually starting to draw, too.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a Master’s in Semiotics from Vilnius University and is a currently a PhD candidate at the Institute of Lithuanian Language. Anušauskaitė also works at the Judaica Reseach Centre at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania. Comics by Anušauskaitė  can be found in the book 10 litų (10 litas) that she drew with her friend Gerda Jord (Aukso žuvys, 2014), in the weekly culture newspaper Šiaurės Atėnai, on the website Kultūrpolis, on her blog ihavenoteeth.com, and on Heraklis.com. Her book Dr. Kvadratas is a new page in the author’s creative work, where she transforms knowledge acquired through studies into a graphic form, bringing it alive in a new format.
